Postpartum Support

Plan ahead for the commonly overlooked stage after birth: the fourth trimester. Support your postpartum healing with a pre-birth planning session or in-home postpartum companionship.

Many parents are shocked by how difficult this stage is. There are so many ways birth can crack us wide open, mind, body and soul. It’s why postpartum healing is a critical time to gently “close” and put those pieces of ourselves back together. Some elements of a supported healing phase include:

Honoring Your Need for Rest

One of the tallest orders of postpartum life is rest. That can challenge our modern addiction to “doing it all.” You can make the transition way less jarring by learning why rest is so critical to your overall recovery.

• •

Taking Time to Heal

There will be time to make sense of what happened, to take photos and share your birth story. Across many cultures and spanning generations, 40 days is considered to be the minimum standard of the time needed to initially acclimate the newly birthed family.

• • •

Creating a Bond as a Family

Picture freshly prepared meals, a safe space (and extra pair of hands) to help with newborn care, and the chance to exhale after the challenge of birth. All of these offer the much needed space for you, your baby, any older siblings and your partner to bond as a family.

Wide, Open Space.

After birth, you can remain cracked open—mind, body and soul—longer than you anticipated.

Your ability to know what to do, how to do it, who to call on, what to eat...is not as sharp.

Rightfully so.

You are new, just like your baby!

Postpartum healing is a critical time for gently “closing” and putting those pieces of ourselves back together. Some new parents need help with meal preparation, others just need someone to hold the baby while they shower, nap or have a moment pour into themselves during the challenging adjustment of new parenthood. You don’t have to—nor should you—go it alone. My in-home support packages are for local*, newly birthed families:

*families within a 20-mile radius of Springfield, Virginia.

Welcome Back Sessions

Postpartum Planning Sessions: $75

90 Minute (virtual) sessions • Plan Your Healing

✓ Great for the natural planner.
✓ Feel better prepared for the post-birth transition.
✓ Develop strategies to navigate the unexpected.

You are a new being; freshly born right along with your baby. Many couples forget to think about what happens after baby arrives and can be very overwhelmed with life after birth. Prepare for the healing phase with a postpartum planning session. We’ll work together to develop your “welcome back” plan. Each plan is unique to you, but most include: a list of support people, plans for (delegating) meals, strategy for slow and steady physical movement and moments to tap back into YOU.

3 | Then schedule a free 30-minute consultation.

Let’s start with a simple conversation. This ensures that we are a good match and that I can provide what you are looking for. There is absolutely no obligation to book a service after this call.

Common Questions:

What exactly does “postpartum” mean? I thought it was a mood disorder.
Many folks confuse the term “postpartum” with postpartum mood disorders like postpartum depression, anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). When someone is “postpartum,” it simply means they are in the healing stage after birth and delivery of their baby and placenta.

Regardless of whether you have experienced a live birth, stillbirth or sudden loss, you are still postpartum. You need the physical, mental and emotional nourishment this phase calls for.

Are you a certified postpartum doula?
No. While I bring my valuable lived experiences as a mother of 2, childbirth educator training, knowledge from continuing education classes—and most importantly—my passion to serve new families to this work, I do not currently hold any certificates with a postpartum doula training organization.

How many meals can we expect?
I prepare one nutritious dish each visit. If you’d like more than this, I will charge only for the cost of the groceries needed for said meal, as well as any light grocery shopping.

Do you support breastfeeding?
Yes, but…I am not a lactation consultant. I can offer basic guidance on the foundation of breastfeeding and tips to support a healthy start. However, I strongly recommend that you find a lactation professional that can support you with a deeper knowledge on breastfeeding. Its definitely worth it!

Can companionship visits be consecutive?
No. For a 24 hour period, I offer (1) 4-hour visit. For example, I can’t provide two back-to-back visits totaling 8 hours. This ensures I’m coming into your space refreshed and ready to pour into YOU.

Do you offer overnight visits or night services?
No, not at this time.

What if you can’t make it?
In the event I am ill, have an emergency or am otherwise unable to make a scheduled visit, we will work to reschedule the visit as soon as possible.

Do these packages include housekeeping?
I do not offer housekeeping services. While I’m happy to do light tidying up for new families, my primary role is to support the new parent as they rest, heal and bond.
